Wiring Method for Czech Explosion-Proof Distribution Boxes

Czech explosion-proof distribution boxes, such as the CZ1290, require certified cables, proper grounding, and adherence to IECEx/ATEX standards for safe wiring in hazardous environments.

General Wiring Guidelines

  1. Power Isolation and Safety Before any wiring, ensure the main power supply is turned off to prevent electrical hazards. Use circuit breakers or isolating switches to disconnect the supply safely .
  2. Cable Selection Use explosion-proof certified cables suitable for hazardous areas (EX or ATEX marked). Cables should be flame-resistant, impact-resistant, and mechanically robust to prevent sparks or arcs from escaping the box .
  3. Internal Wiring Components
    • Terminal Blocks: Connect incoming power to the designated “live” terminals. Ensure neutral, live, and earth wires are correctly assigned.
    • Leakage Protection Switches: For three-phase four-wire systems, use 63A–100A switches; for 220V single-phase, 32A switches are recommended. Mount switches securely with bolts or on rails fixed with self-tapping screws .
    • Sockets: Use 10A for two-pin and 16A for three-pin 220V outlets .
  4. Wire Specifications
    • 380V Power Lines: 6–8 mm² single-core copper wires in red, yellow, and green.
    • 220V Power Lines: 2.5 mm² single-core copper wires in red and blue.
    • Grounding: 2.5 mm² green-yellow striped wire. Maintain proper grounding to ensure safety and compliance .
  5. Separation of Circuits Keep 380V and 220V supplies separate for maintenance and operational safety. Connect 220V directly at the power inlet using a three-phase five-wire system (three phases, one neutral, one ground), .

Installation and Alignment

  • Place the distribution boxes on prepared foundations, align using shims, and secure with bolts. Ensure minimal unevenness between adjacent boxes (top level difference ≤2mm, overall ≤5mm) and gaps ≤2mm .
  • Cover cable layers with checkered steel plates and insulate visible parts with 1200mm x 10mm insulation .

Standards and Certification

  • Ensure the box and components comply with IECEx and ATEX certifications.
  • Use only approved components; do not modify internal wiring or seals, as this can compromise explosion-proof integrity .
  • CZ1290 boxes come pre-wired internally; external wiring is required only for user connections .

Usage Precautions

  • Avoid overloading circuits; adhere to rated electrical loads.
  • Regularly inspect cables and connections for wear or damage.
  • Ensure the explosion-proof rating matches the hazardous area classification (Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, Zone 22) to prevent catastrophic failure . By following these wiring methods and safety precautions, Czech explosion-proof distribution boxes can be installed and operated safely in industrial environments with flammable gases, vapors, or dust.
