Rung Spacing

For ladder-type cable trays supporting large power cables, rung spacing of 9 inches (229 mm) or wider is recommended to prevent sagging and maintain proper bending radii of cables. For small-diameter control or instrumentation cables, 6 to 9 inches (150–230 mm) is preferable to support the cables without damage while keeping the installation neat. In some cases, 12 or 18-inch rung spacing may be selected to accommodate cable bending requirements and reduce field modifications .

Vertical and Horizontal Tray Spacing

  • Height Above Ground: Cable trays should ideally be installed at least 2.2 meters above the ground.
  • Top Clearance: Maintain a minimum distance of 0.3 meters from the ceiling or other obstructions.
  • Concealed Installations: In suspended ceilings, a vertical clear space of 80 mm should be maintained above the tray cover for access and airflow .

Fill Rate and Airflow
