Huawei Switch Broadband Aggregation Port

Huawei switch aggregation broadband ports use Eth-Trunk to combine multiple physical Ethernet links into a single logical interface, increasing bandwidth, reliability, and enabling load balancing.

Overview of Link Aggregation

Huawei switches support Ethernet link aggregation, also called Eth-Trunk, which bundles multiple physical ports into a single logical link. This provides:

  • Increased bandwidth: The total bandwidth equals the sum of all member interfaces .
  • Higher reliability: If one link fails, traffic is automatically switched to other active links .
  • Load balancing: Traffic is distributed among member interfaces to optimize performance .

Link aggregation can operate in two modes:

  1. Manual mode: Interfaces are manually added to an Eth-Trunk without LACP. Suitable when the remote device does not support LACP .
  2. LACP mode: Uses the Link Aggregation Control Protocol to dynamically manage member links, providing redundancy and automatic failover .

Configuration Steps (Layer 2 Example)

  1. Create Eth-Trunk Interface:

    system-viewinterface Eth-Trunk 1

  2. Add Member Interfaces:

    interface GigabitEthernet 0/0/1eth-trunk 1interface GigabitEthernet 0/0/2eth-trunk 1

  3. Configure VLANs: Remove interfaces from default VLAN1 and assign to required VLANs to avoid broadcast storms .
  4. Set Load Balancing: Configure load-sharing method to distribute traffic among member interfaces .
  5. Verify Status:

    display eth-trunk 1

Layer 3 Aggregation

For Layer 3 aggregation, the Eth-Trunk interface can be converted to a Layer 3 interface:

  1. Convert to Layer 3:

    interface Eth-Trunk 1undo portswitch

  2. Assign IP Address: Configure the IP address for routing purposes .
  3. Add Physical Ports: Join the physical ports to the Eth-Trunk as in Layer 2 configuration .

Best Practices

  • Ensure all member interfaces have the same speed, duplex, and flow control settings .
  • Both ends of the Eth-Trunk must have the same number of member interfaces and aggregation mode .
  • Use LACP mode when possible for automatic failover and redundancy .
  • Configure interface priority and system priority to control which links are active in case of multiple member links .

By following these steps, Huawei switches can effectively aggregate broadband ports to increase network throughput, improve reliability, and provide load-balanced traffic distribution.
