The splitter portion passively divides an incoming optical signal into multiple outputs without requiring electrical power, making it ideal for FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and PON (Passive Optical Network) deployments .

Working Principle

The principle of a semi-finished pigtail splitter is based on optical coupling and signal redistribution:

  • Optical Coupling: Light entering the splitter is guided into a splitting region where multiple fibers are precisely aligned. The optical waveguides or fused fibers allow the light to interfere and redistribute across the output fibers .
  • Signal Redistribution: Depending on the splitter design, the input signal is divided into equal or specified ratios (e.g., 1×2, 1×4, 1×8, 1×32).
