Planning and Route Design

For indoor installations, conduits entering a telecommunications room or ODB should terminate four inches above the finished floor and be sealed to prevent water, gas, or rodent intrusion . For outdoor or underground installations, ensure conduits are straight, continuous, and securely joined, with proper encasement if under slabs .

Conduit and Innerduct Selection

Use innerducts to subdivide larger conduits and allow for future cable pulls. Innerducts can be ribbed, corrugated, or smooth-walled polyethylene or PVC, and proper sizing is critical to maintain low fill ratios, reducing pulling tension . For example, three 1.25-inch innerducts can typically fit into a 4-inch conduit. All conduits should be cleaned, dried, and tested with a mandrel to ensure compliance with sweep radius requirements before cable installation .
